Faith Over Fear

Recently faith and fear have been rattling around in my head. I’ve heard in the past that “faith and fear cannot occupy the same space”. It made total sense when I first heard it and I believed it to be true, but somehow it’s easy to forget. Although I want to focus on faith, fear has been getting in the way.

The definition of faith is “complete trust or confidence in someone or something”.  On the other hand, fear is “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat”. Even based on the definition I would side with faith over fear.

The problem is that faith requires belief in the unseen and unknown, whereas fear comes from knowledge of previous experiences that you want to avoid. It’s so easy to side with fear because it’s often the safe choice that requires little effort. Faith means something new or challenging may come along. And even when you think you have faith, there may be some fear in the background that could quickly cause you to lose your faith.

Often, we want to have faith that things will work out, but we get knocked down and think that maybe we were wrong. And sometimes we can feel silly having faith in something that doesn’t exist yet.

I think that faith requires a lot of strength and trust in yourself. I think that having faith in something and pursuing it is a beautiful thing. It’s so sad when people choose fear instead of faith. So many dreams become unfulfilled

when you choose the safe road out of fear.

One of my favorite quotes from the book You Are A Badass is, “On the other side of your fear is your freedom”. I love this quote because it’s so important to get over ourselves and our fears to go after what we really want in life.

It’s easier said than done, but I hope you choose faith today. I know I’m working towards having more faith than fear. Focus on your faith and you will have a beYOUtiful life.
